Labour's local housing policy is in tatters and much-needed new homes are in jeopardy.

  • 10,000 home Meridian Water scheme in Edmonton delayed

  • Talks with developer collapse

  • 6,700 jobs unlikely to be delivered

  • Enfield's reputation for regeneration takes a massive hit

  • Labour's housing policy is in tatters

Enfield Council's flagship Meridian Water housing scheme is under threat because the preferred developer has walked away from talks. The collapse of the talks means that Enfield Council will have to find another development partner and negotiate a long-term contract with them. This will cause further delays to a project which has already been on the drawing board for a decade

Cllr Joanne Laban, Leader of the Conservative Group on Enfield Council, said,

"This scheme was started when we were in power a decade ago and Labour
has had over seven years to get it off the ground. This latest news is hugely disappointing and a blow for anyone wishing to get on the housing ladder locally. lf Labour cannot deliver 10,000 homes in  Enfield then they have got no chance of delivering housing nationally".
